For two decades, the International Film Festival for Human Rights has been the only one of its kind in Albania, bringing together directors, activists, students, and the public from across the country and beyond to reflect on important human rights issues through cinematography.

The European Union was the main supporter of this jubilee edition, standing by Albania’s journey towards democracy, equality, and inclusion.

The festival focused on the theme “Human Rights in the Digital Age,” highlighting both the opportunities and challenges of the digital world.

The opening film, The Boy in Pink Pants by Margherita Ferri, brought this spirit through the touching story of Andrea Spezzacatena, a teenager who tragically experienced the consequences of verbal and online bullying, reminding us why human dignity must be protected both offline and online.

For 5 days, the public has the opportunity to follow a selection of films, discussions, and activities that challenge stereotypes, spark debates, and promote a culture of human rights, free of charge.

One of the activities within the festival was the screening of the documentary “EUkrainian” by Swedish director Victor Nordenshold, which reflects the reality of life in Ukraine, marking four years since the Russian aggression.

The documentary was screened at the Presidency of the Assembly of Albania in collaboration with the Embassy of Ukraine in Albania, where representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy, the diplomatic corps, artists, and festival organizers participated.

In her welcoming speech, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Albania, Klodiana Spahiu, emphasized that the war in Ukraine remains the clearest symbol of the violation of peace, sovereignty, and human dignity.

On behalf of the Embassy of Ukraine in Albania, Yuliia Gorokhovska conveyed the greetings and message of the Ambassador, Volodymyr Shkurov, who thanked the Albanian people and institutions for their unwavering support.

Earlier, the guests had the opportunity to view the exhibition of the Ukrainian artist titled “Carved Memory: Myths and Heroes Between Two Worlds.” (September 18)
