“BE for democracy”, Gonzato: We help Albania in the modernization of institutions

The Ambassador of the European Union delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, stated that Albania has reached a crucial moment, as this year all negotiation chapters are expected to open with the European Union.
Ambassador Gonzato considered this an opportunity for Albania to modernize its institutions and strengthen democracy.
At the event organized by the Assembly of Albania for the presentation of the e-Legislation portal, Ambassador Gonzato emphasized the role of the EU delegation in supporting Albania in this process.
“We have a project to assist the Assembly in all these matters which will be ‘EU for Democracy’. This important program will focus on governance and management, improving negotiation mechanisms, and empowering civil society and the media,” he said.
Speaking about the e-Legislation portal, Gonzato noted that in addition to this instrument, the Assembly has also taken on a number of other instruments such as that for creating an open parliament.
“Another measure is to enhance transparency and accountability, for example, the creation of a disclosure system for committee and plenary sessions as well as real-time broadcasting and audiovisual recording,” he said.
The Ambassador also addressed the improvement of the consultative platform to make it more qualitative and accessible.
He also praised the Assembly’s commitment to having better ethical standards, to address various issues such as the Code of Ethics for deputies and the improvement of administrative capacities.
“All these measures will enhance transparency and accountability, integrity, and effectiveness of the Assembly. In this way, the trust of citizens will also be stronger in the institution. In fact, this institution must have all the necessary financial resources. This is key to ensuring that we have the independence of this institution as well as its capacity to evaluate legislation, but also to hold accountable so that the Assembly plays its crucial role during negotiations with the EU,” Gonzato added.
