Abhishek Sharma Doubtful for Pakistan Clash
The doubt by Abhishek Sharma about the blockbuster ICC Men T20 World Cup 2026 in India against Pakistan has turned out to be a big source of conversation before the high voltage game in Colombo on February 15. The left-handed explosive opener is yet to overcome a stomach infection and might not be fit in time to face the important Group A match.
India are already on the right track towards their defense. They won two convincing matches out of their opening matches. They have just won against Namibia by a huge margin of 93 runs. That outcome made India the first in the Group A. Nevertheless, the issues of the balance within the team are still present because Sharma has an unpredictable availability.
The 25 year old missed the Namibia game due to falling sick earlier in the week. At the toss, the captain of the Indian team, Suryakumar Yadav added that the opener was unwell. He had also proposed that Sharma would miss out on more matches.
BCCI has also made a warning update. In its official communication, the board said that Abhishek Sharma was not available to be chosen and that the medical team has been following up closely his recovery. No definite date of returning has been established yet.
The ailment of Sharma started on the eve of the tournament against the USA in India. In that game he got a golden duck and was not in the field in the second innings.
India have now a tactical choice. Pakistan have also won their two initial matches and are in fine form. The absence of such a T20I batter as Sharma may have an impact on aggressive start of India. The management of the team will wish to be back on its feet and health will be the main priority before the marquee match.
