Abhishek Sharma Doubtful for India-Pakistan Clash
Fitness of Abhishek Sharma is in question, ahead of the India vs Pakistan blockbuster in the India vs Pakistan match in the ICC Men T20 World Cup 2026. In the second group stage, India lost its second match to Namibia because of a stomach problem that forced the explosive left-handed opener to miss the match. His involvement against Pakistan in the R Premadasa stadium on Sunday is still doubtful.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav held an interview with the media, which showed a sense of concern, and confidence in his teammate. He admitted that Sharma is a talented and influential person but he noted that the strategy of the team will be flexible. Yadav said that Abhishek is a main player, however, we are playing intelligent cricket.
The recent setbacks of Sharma started during the opener of India against the USA where he had fallen ill and scored a golden duck. The left-hander was unable to go to field in the second innings and even hospitalised. Nevertheless, he was observed celebrating and encouraging his team mates in the Namibia match indicating that he was willing to heal.
The captain and head coach of Pakistan Salman Ali Agha has in recent times expressed optimism that Sharma would appear given the extra spice that he creates when it comes to India vs Pakistan games. Agha noted that Sharma was a bat that could transform the game in a few smashing hits.
Tactically, this inclusion by Sharma would probably turn the tide in favour of India. His violent approach fits well in high pressure matches and the power of the crowd may also enhance his performance. Nevertheless, in case of his disqualification, India has ready-to-replace players with much versatility, who have maintained their chances of experiencing victory.
