€10.7 billion from new EU partnership fund for Austria

Brussels – The new multiannual EU budget is set to be not only higher at two trillion euros, but also to include other structures. The major items of agricultural and regional policy, along with other important areas, are to be included in national and regional partnership plans funded with 865 billion euros. According to the EU Commission, a total of 10.7 billion euros is planned for Austria for the years 2028-2034; nearly one billion is reserved for migration.
400 million euros will go into the social and climate fund. Accordingly, 9.4 billion euros are planned for the remaining areas, which include the major items of agriculture, rural development, and regional funding. Overall, according to the Commission’s plans, around 300 billion euros are to be earmarked for agriculture, with 218 billion euros designated for less developed regions. For comparison, Germany is set to receive a total of 68.4 billion euros, while France and Spain will each receive around 90 billion euros. Poland receives the most with 123 billion.
For comparison: According to the latest available data from the EU Commission, Vienna received around 2.2 billion euros from Brussels in 2023, of which 1.3 billion was for domestic agriculture and 335 million euros for research. Austria received around 250 million euros in cohesion funds (regional policy).
Resistance from Austria
Resistance is already emerging from Austria against the plans of the EU Commission. European Minister Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) called on Friday before a meeting with her counterparts for “further development” of the funds, which should also guarantee returns to Austria. In particular, the second pillar of agricultural policy is very important for Austria. Austria stands for adequate funding for agriculture in a separate fund. (18.07.2025)
